Similarly as the Interreg Community Initiative, this objective is directed at:

• Cross-border cooperation of the regions at the NUTS III level at the internal and some external boarders of the EU _ 73.86% of the means from the European Territorial Cooperation objective, i.e. 5.576 billion €

In the financial period 2007-2013 Slovenia is involved in five cross-border programmes:

1. Environment, transport and sustainable territorial integration
• Protect bio-diversity and ensurethe sustainable management of natural resources, protection of environmentagainst natural and technological risks and pollution, increase the use of renewable energy sources
• Improve accessibility and transport systems and increase the integration between urban and rural areas
• Strengthen territorial integration within “bordering” areas

2. Competitiveness and knowledge based society
